Basement waterproofing cost can fluctuate depending on a variety of issues and reasons. But, one thing remains consistent. If you are going to waterproof your basement, then you want to get quality work for your hard earned dollars.

Believe me, I hear you. But the reality is this. If you don’t do your Basement waterproofing and your basement floods, then you could be looking at thousands of dollars down the drain….and the water won’t even go. Ok, I know this is no laughing matter, but you have to take it seriously. I don’t know why that is, but I don’t like it one bit. Water Tank – Often times, your water tank is not elevated in your basement on concrete blocks, so when the basement floods it is one of the first things to go. Water sitting inside your water tank will not only give you a few days of no hot water, it will cost you a new  hot water tank. And new hot water tanks cost about $450, just about anywhere.

Furnace - This is not the most likely of scenarios, but it could very well happen. Your furnace can quickly be ruined by standing water in your basement and around the furnace. Maybe the motor just takes on water and that has to be replaced or the whole thing might go bad, but not waterproofing your basement can lead to this extra expense of anywhere from $1,500 for repair to $3,000 for a new furnace all together.

Carpet - If the basement is finished, then we are talking about some serious cost and cash because now they have to come in and restore or replace what is in the basement. If it is carpeting you can add another $300 to $400 to the cost. And the smell is going to be with you for a while. Carpet water damage is no joking matter.

Drywall - You don’t want to see what water does to drywall. After it rots out as much as it can, then you have to watch the rest of it get absorbed up the wall and then only to form mold, which means that the drywall has to be completely ripped out and re-installed. This can run anywhere from $1,000 to $2000 or more.

Mold - I didn’t really want to mention this nasty little reality of not waterproofing your basement and worrying about the cost, but it is real. Mold loves water and has no problem forming in it’s presence. Not only will you have to call in a mold specialist that is not going to be cheap, but you have to worry about the mold causing people in your home to get sick and need medical attention. This cost can be anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 on the low end.

Personal items – All of this and we have not counted the cost of pictures, memories, photo albums, records, music, special items, memorabilia and more that can easily be lost in the basement that isn’t waterproofed and happens to flood. This is priceless and cannot be replaced.

Basement Waterproofing Cost isn’t so bad

After considering the list, you will have to admit that the $700 to $2,000 in basement waterproofing cost is a small pitch in the bucket to avoid half of the tragedies that I mentioned above. And believe me, the cost can be much higher than that. We didn’t get into electric, electric equipment that can be lost, the waster and dryer, treadmills, pianos, air hockey tables, pool tables and more that find a place in the basement.

At the end of the day, you don’t want to deal with the agony of this potential situation, so do your self a favor and forget the short term cost of basement waterproofing cost and invest in your future, memories, and family.
