Not many things in this world can compare to the frustration that one feels when they realize their basement have been flooded. It is ok to be frustrated, we have all been there. It is almost as if a flooding basement and the ensuing water damage that comes from it has become a rite of passage for homeowners.
Dealing with Basement Water Damage
The first thing you need to do in the even that your basement takes on water is to secure all electrical appliances, cords, and plugs ensuring they are not in the water. Once that is complete, remove personal items from the water, so they don’t become water logged, mildewed, and molded.
Once the personal items are secured, try identify the cause of the problems. Are your drains backed up, did the sump pump stop working, what is the cause of the blockage in the water. From there, move on to figure out how to remove the blockage while identifying where the water is coming from.
Water in the basement is a sign for a variety of problems. You may have foundation issues, leaks in the basement walls, crawl space problems, broken pipes, a not working ejector pump. You just have to go down the list until you notice where the problem exist.
