Carpet Water Damage
Water damage in your carpet is not a laughing matter. One year, my wife and I were gone for a short vacation over the winter. We went to a beach front resort and had the time of our lives. Little did we know, while we were going there was a severely freezing weather back home.
Well, the worst happened when the pipes froze over and burst. The drywall, carpet, hardwood floors had water everywhere. It was a total disaster by the time we got one to witness it all. Water was everywhere, at least 1 foot high in the home. We had to drain the house before we could really assess all the damages.
Once we got the water out, we were able to see the water damage up close and personal. Mildew and mold had begun to set into the drywall and carpet. It was pretty bad. The smell was awful. Made me think that no matter if we could save the carpet that we might not want to do it anyway because there was no way to get the smell out.
If you were wondering, yes, we had homeowners insurance and was able to get our property restored to normal. The water damage to the carpet was so sever that we could not treat or cleaned. We had to pull all the carpet out of the home and just start fresh.
Water Damage Tip: Always have a good homeowners insurance policy
Everything is not worth the time and effort to clean, fix, or repair. Sometimes replacement is the best option. In the case of extreme carpet water damage, replacing the carpet is often the best option. Also, you would be surprised how affordable new carpet is these days. Especially if your insurance company is picking up the bill.
